“It’s not the most pleasant feeling”
Whereas Daniel Ricciardo has just announced his departure from McLaren a few days from Belgian Grand Prix, the Australian pilot spoke, in remarks relayed by MotorSporton his time in the British team and draws lessons from his adventure. “Not the nicest feeling, but I can hold my head up trying to make things work. You have to accept that you tried and it didn’t work. It’s just one of those things. I’m proud of how we tried to make that happen. It is not finished. This call from Zak did not happen by chance one day. We’ve been talking for a few months. There was a lot of dialogue, but I also knew it was a concern because the results I was getting weren’t what we all wanted. We discussed for months how to rectify the problems. »
“Honestly, I still don’t know what the future holds for Oscar”
WhileOscar Piastri is expected to replace Daniel Ricciardo at the house of McLarenthe latter spoke about the possibility of his compatriot taking his place in the British team. “Honestly, I still don’t know what the future holds for Oscar. That’s none of my business. Mark (Webber) does his job for Oscar. I don’t take any of this personally. I will support a fellow Australian. »
“If the stars don’t align and it doesn’t make sense, then I’m ready to do it”
Daniel Ricciardo quits McLaren and the pilot spoke about his future. The Australian would even think of offering himself a sabbatical year for the coming season. “If that makes sense, then yes. F1 is the only discipline I’m interested in, but like I said, if the stars don’t align and it doesn’t make sense, then I’m ready to do it. I still love this sport. I still love it and I still want to do it in the right place. If I’m here I want to be here for a purpose, to be competitive so I don’t know what that means for the future but if it’s the right opportunity in 2024 but not in 2023 then I want to be here . I think of myself. You always have to get up. Nobody has a perfect career, so I learned to manage. This fire, this belief is always in me. A lot of people want me to succeed at McLaren. There’s no better feeling than success in this sport, so I know if I apply myself, we can find a way to end our story properly together. »
