“I have not been in contact with any other pilot”
In comments reported by Motorsport.com, Toto Wolff admitted that he had not yet considered the pilot who will replace Lewis Hamilton when he retires. ” Hamilton’s successor? I have not been in contact with any other driver, he confided before confirming that the Briton will be well in the paddock for possibly many more years. Lewis and I, even if the season had gone badly, would have stayed together next year if only on the principle of hope. And for a few months, we have been discussing the fact that it lasts five or ten years. So none of this is true. I have not been in touch actively or reactively [avec quiconque] to fly with us in the future. »
Hamilton is not thinking about retirement…
However, Lewis Hamilton knows that retirement is getting closer and closer. He could see Kimi Raikkonen leaving the paddock at the end of last year. At the end of this season, it is Sebastian Vettel who will withdraw from the starting grid. Something to think about Lewis Hamilton, age 37? “Vettel’s retirement? It doesn’t make me think about my future, but it reminds me that I’m in a part of my career where the people I started racing with are going to stophe explained a few days ago.
… but preparing for post-F1
But even though, Lewis Hamilton begins to prepare for the aftermathF1. If it is inevitable that he will have to leave the race in a few years, the driver of mercedes nevertheless asserts that he will never be very far from discipline: “I will always be plugged into this sport, I will always be watching. I will always want to be someone who is positive for all the drivers who are here, good or bad, because we know how difficult it is to start. We know how bad it can be, how good some days can be and how negative people can be towards you. I never want to be one of those riders who does that, because we have experienced that.” For now, Lewis Hamilton has not yet left the world of F1. And given the recent revelations of Toto Wolffthe seven-time world champion still has a few years ahead of him.
